Natural Hair Care

There are many types of Natural Hair Care Products on the market today. You would be surprised to find out how many Natural Hair Care products are on the market. I was very surprised… During the Pandemic I became a natural Hair person just because I could not go out, so what’s a girl to do about her hair?? That was a question that many of us had to think about.

I like many asked questions and I also found ways of taking care of my hair without putting chemicals on the HAIR. And actually not having chemicals on the HAIR was not that bad. I also felt like this was the time to let my HAIR breathe. And I also learned that caring for natural hair was quite a job to keep up with. Because this is definitely a process. You can’t just shampoo, towel dry, or air dry and put a little oil on your hair and that was it. There is a process that one has to go through.

Our hair is extremely important to us. It is a big part of how we are seen and how we see ourselves. When you have hair that is seemingly out of control, you are in a World of despair. But there is a solution.

Our genetics give us our hair. From straight to curly and everything in between.

The Difference Between Hair Texture and Hair Type:

Hair Texture refers to the individual hair strand and Hair Type is referred to the head of hair as a whole. Knowing your hair type and texture lets you understand your hair and the products that you need to keep your hair well-maintained.

HAIR TEXTURE:

Hair Can Be FINE, MEDIUM, Or THICK.

  • FINE HAIR – Straight hair has two hair layers (cortex and cuticle), it is the most resilient hair. It’s hard to damage and also hard to curl. And it is also the oiliest hair texture.
  • MEDIUM HAIR – Medium hair is the most common. Medium hair has a cortex and cuticle and a layer called the medulla. The medulla makes medium hair more tolerant to higher-stress styling and less prone to breakage.
  • COARSE HAIR – With thick/coarse hair you have lots of strands that contain a medulla. A person with thick hair texture will appear to have a fuller head of hair than a fine hair texture. Coarse hair is the most resilient when it comes to styling, chemical treatments, and general breakage.

SOME HAIR TYPES:

There is a chart that helps you determine your hair type. It goes from Type 1 to Type 4. Each type has a subtype. These subtypes get more specific to help you determine your hair type. Then once you determine your hair type, you will be able to learn how to care for your hair.

  • TYPE 1 – Straight Hair – depending on the texture, straight hair varies in strength and style ability. Now fine straight hair can be delicate and hard to style.
  • TYPE 2 – Wavy Hair – the Waves do not cover the length of the shaft, the concentration is at the bottom half. Wavy Hair needs attention by concentrating on the right products and styling in order to look its best!!
  • TYPE 3 – Curly Hair – curly hair has a distinctive bouncy curl. This type of hair may straighten out when wet, but for whatever reason, it will curl back up. Curl will be present from top to bottom of the hair strand. Curly Hair needs extra care.
  • TYPE 4 – Kinky/Coily Hair – this hair type has very tight curls, coils, or kinks. This type of hair has to deal with all of the challenges that you generally find in Curly hair, frizz, shrinkage, curl definition, and dryness.
